National Centre for the Performing Arts

The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) is the top performing arts centre in China with its fabulous and international performances and stunning building. It has become a new landmark building of Beijing since it was built. The unique building designed by French architect Paul Andrew resembles a shell lying on a lake. In addition, the center has underwater corridors, an underground garage, an artificial lake and the green space. It covers an area of about 29 acres (about 12 hectares). The whole project started from December 2001. After more than 5 years' construction, it was finally completed in September, 2007. Now it is believed to be the deepest architecture in Beijing with the deepest point being -106.6 feet (-32.5 meters), equivalent to the height of a 10-floor building.

The theatre contains three auditoriums including the Opera House, the Concert Hall and the Theater where all kinds of performances like dramas, operas, dance shows and symphonies are staged frequently. Besides, various exhibitions and activities usually can be found here as well.

Beijing Capital Theatre

Housed in an elegant Soviet-style building, the Beijing Capital Theatre (Chinese Name: 首都剧场) is part of the Beijing People’s Art Theatre that is located at northern end of Wangfujing Avenue, one of the busiest areas of Beijing. Built in 1954, the theatre is one of the earliest theatres in China as well as one of the largest theatres. Covering an area of 15 thousand square meters, it is a complex of performances, rehearse and administration. The theater features classical and luxurious design whose auditorium and lounge are decorated with various stylish lanterns. It can hold about 1000 audiences and boasts decent audio system to ensure audiences enjoying performance. In addition, drama bookstore, gallery, and café are available.

Haidian Theatre

Haidian Theatre is located at Zhongguancun Science Park in northwest of Beijing. The stylistic building has become one of the most important landmark buildings in this area. The theatre has two auditoriums that the larger one can hold 1,000 guests while the small one has 120 seats. The lager one is a combination of cinema and theater shows movies and stages plays, Beijing Opera and children's performances. The theatre is also equipped with advanced facilities including orchestra, lifting stage, surround sound system and comfortable seats. Tickets range from RMB 30-80, depending on type of show. Kaixin Mahua, a hot comedy troupe in China, always presents newly plays in this theatre. Hence, the theatre is quite popular among local people.

Poly Theatre

Situated at the center of downtown Beijing, this theater enjoys a great geographical locality and features a classic chic architectural structure. Its auditorium has 1,500 seats and an elevating stage which can accommodate 90 performers. It has 13 medium and high-grade dressing rooms designed for 200 performers to put on make-up on two floors. Additionally, it has an elegant VIP lounge and 2 VIP balcony lounges.

Since 1991 when it was initially put into service, this theatre has successfully received nearly 600 artistic troupes from home and abroad and nearly 4,000 nationally and globally renowned shows. It has also held Beijing International Music Festival. Audiences can enjoy operas, symphonic concerts, ballets, musicals and other performances here.

Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center

Located at the south central axis of Xicheng District in Beijing, the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center is a comprehensive theater complex featuring four venues. Its Grand Theater with 1600 seats is the first professional music performance theater in Beijing. There are also a Medium Theater (1,000 seats), a Small Theater (400 seats), and a Multi-function Theater Lab (300 seats) which can meet the needs of different performances.

Different kinds of performances, including musical, drama, dance, family show, children's play, concerts and various live shows are displayed at the theatre, offering the fantastic audio-visual feasts for the audience.
