Dashunzhai was established during the reign of Chongzhen Emperor of the Ming Dynasty (around 1640) with a history of 350-plus years. Over the past hundreds years, Dashunzhai has produced some 40 kinds of featured halal pastries. Among which, the most famous one is sweet baked cake, one of the three top pastries of Tongzhou. Sweet baked cake of Dashunzhai is soft, loose, and delicious, and has a long shelf life. In making sweet baked cake, materials are carefully chosen and often purchased in regular providers. Most patrons of Dashunzhai are middle and lower classes of Hui people, which means that these cakes are inexpensive.
