The moment you walk close to 1901 CAFE, you can feel the cultural and calm vibe it sends, which may have something to do with the old church next to it.
The building where the coffeehouse sits, commenced in 1901, used to be a subsidiary building of Xishiku Church. In addition to the gorgeous appearance of the building itself, the surrounding time-honored structures in the old district also have a special pleasing quality. Inside the cafe, it is spacious and bright. Such loosely arranged layout is really hard to come by in this part of the city where rents tend to be soaring.
1901 CAFE, though situated in an old district, is filled with a strong classic European-style quality. Despite a small shop front with a narrow door outside and a not really spacious bar counter inside, one may be surprised when getting to the second floor via the wooden staircase. With large tables and sofas, and a tall bookcase, when the sun goes down, it feels like we are literally living in the Baroque period. The third floor looks like a loft where the space is limited. But still, it can also hold several customers.
1901 CAFE sells coffee and snacks at slightly higher prices than regular coffeehouses. But it’s totally worth it. Here is also an ideal place for people who would like to take great photos and feel the quite atmosphere in a coffeehouse.
