Life in Hutong

2017-09-15

An offline activity hosted by ELSEWHERE and Zhuyi, two excellent independent studios, will take place at Shijia Hutong Museum on September 17. Themed with Hutong Wanderers, the activity will invite Benjamin Heisler, an American loved hutong to share his story with hutong.

Benjamin has many names, such as Li Xibao, when he studied a Chinese university, and Qiuzhang, which means the chief of a tribe. Qiuzhang is more well-known. He came to Beijing in 2005 and now settled in Fangjia Hutong, which has been his second hometown for the 12-year experience. He loves the hutong incorporating oriental and western culture and to communicate with different people.

He is an English teacher and children are mainly his students. Benjamin has a studio hidden in hutong in Houlai Lake Area. It is also the venue he teaches students. He considered the small space is a salon rather than a classroom. In this small place, many “treasures” are collected in it, which were selected from America.

He detailed that he loved hutong because it was like a village where people got closer and familiar, which was totally different from a grim metropolis. Life became relaxing and easy in the small space, he added.

Besides Benjamin, two outstanding interior designers are also invited to share their ideas about living in hutong.

Venue: Shijia Hutong Museum, Dongcheng District, Beijing.

Time: 14:30 – 16:00 September 17.
