Tangka Art Exhibition to be Held in Beijing

2017-08-03

If you are a big fan of Chinese traditional art, here is the bonus. An exhibition of Tangka art painting will be held at the National Museum of China in August. This exhibition will display more than 100 Tangka paintings by famous Tu ethnic crafts artist Xiawu Cailang and his son Gengdeng Daji. Besides traditional themes of religion, social life and folk customs of Tibetan people, there are also historical themes that reflect the Han-Tibetan cultural exchanges. The highlight goes to a 30-meter long scroll painting, which vividly reproduces the unique cultural traditions of Tibetan people.

Tangka is a kind of scroll painting mounted on silk, cloth or paper. It serves as decoration for homes and monasteries, and also reflects the pious beliefs of the Tibetan people. With distinctive ethnic features and strong religious flavor of Tibetan people, it is dubbed the encyclopedia of Tibetan culture. As a precious national intangible cultural heritage, it was passed through the verbal form. The gorgeous Thangka is the gem of the painstaking efforts of Buddhist artists and master painters.
