Dunhuang Dream is a full-length Dunhuang-themed dance drama created and produced by Lanzhou Dance Troupe. It was performed for the first time in Beijing in April 2000 to mark the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Dunhuang Sutra Cave and the beginning of Dunhuang Studies. As of now, the dance drama has been performed for nearly 1200 times around the world and has won a number of awards in China.

Synopsis

Young painter MO Gao goes to Dunhuang in pursuit of the highest artistic realm. When he is walking through the desert, he encounters obstacle and is about to die. A girl named Yueya who happens to pass by saves him. Before long, they meet again in Dunhuang and fall in love with each other. However, Yueya’s father, a great general, opposes their marriage, and forces Yueya to choose her huasband from the rich and powerful. For love, Yueya runs away from home on a starlit night and meets MO Gao in a cave, but the cave is then encircled by troops under the command of the great general. In face of life threat, Yueya sacrifices herself to save MO Gao again...
