Founded on Sep. 25, 1955 as the flagship store of the Wangfujing Group, the Beijing Department Store enjoyed the domestic and overseas reputations as the first Store of New China. From the 1950s to the 1980s, a former employee, Zhang Binggui, also a National Model Worker, one of China's highest honors, was appraised as the Ninth Great Sights of Yanjing by customers with good skills of weighing and accounting.

The Beijing Department Store has expanded many times since 2007 and reached an area of 100,000 square meters at present. The store covers a large number of international and domestic premium brands, accounting for 40% of the total number of brand. It also functions as the center of leisure and entertainment with services of catering, beauty salons and cinemas.
