Old Hutongs in Beijing

Zhuanta Hutong

As one of the hutongs with the longest history in Beijing, the Zhuanta Hutong is also one of the hutongs with little damage and reserved styles and features in Beijing. Situated near to West Fourth memorial archway, Zhuanta Hutong namedfrom an ancient tower of blue bricks in the hutong, where Vinson, the teacher of the famous official in Yuan Dynasty of Yelu Chucai and an eminent monk during Jin Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty, was buried.

Traffic routes:

1. Tourists can get off at “Xisi” Station by taking Metro Line 4 of Daxing Line, and walk out from Exit D, and then walk southwest for about 100 m.

2. Tourists can take No. 102, 105, 603 and 608 bus and get off at “South Xisi Intersection” Station, and walk northward for about 110 m.

West Jiaomin xiang

Starting with the Tian’anmen Square from the east and getting to North Xinhua Street to the west,,the West Jiaomin Hutong faces Beijing Legation Quarter and is parallel to Chang’an Street. West Jiaominxiang was the Financial Street of about one hundred year during late Qing Dynasty – late 20th century.

Traffic routes: Tourists can take No. 9, 66, 67, special 2, special 4 and special 7 bus, and get off at

East Peace Arch, and then walk for 211 m.

Juer Hutong

Situated in northwest of Dongcheng District of Beijing, Juer Hutong starts from South Jiaodaokou Street to the east and gets to Nanluoguxiang to the west; it is close to Houyuan’en Temple Hutong to the south and is connected to Shoubi Hutong to the north, with full length of 438 m and width of 6 m.

Traffic routes:

1. Tourists can take Metro Line 6 or 8, and get off at Nanluoguxiang .

2. Tourists can take No. 104 express train, No. 104 tramcar, No. 108 tramcar, No. 113, 612, 758 and special 11 Bus, and get off at South Jiaodaokou, and walk for 157 m.
