Beijing Folk Museum is the only state-owned folk culture themed museum in Beijing. Located in No. 141 Chaoyangmenwai Dajie, Chaoyang District, the site of the museum is Dongyue Temple, the Key National Historical and Cultural Sites in Beijing.

Invested by Zhang Liusun and Wu Quanjie, the masters of Xuanjiao, Dongyue Temple was built in the sixth year of Emperor of Yanyou of Yuan Dynasty. Covering an area of 47,400 square meters, it has 300 ancient rooms of different architecture styles of the Yuan, Ming, Qing Dynasties. In history, Dongyue Temple was a national site for worship gods as well as a place for citizens to hold folk activities. In 1996, Dongyue Temple was listed as Key National Historical and Cultural Site. In 1997, Dongyue Temple Administrative Office and Beijing Folk Museum was founded and 1999, it was officially opened to the public.
