A two-hour tour of Capital Museum

A two-hour tour of Capital Museum

2016-12-05

Never before have you visited the Capital Museum in Beijing? I don’t think you should miss it if you have already arrived in Beijing. It is a museum of wonders and jewelries and gems.

The Capital Museum is located near Beijing’s Nanlishilu Subway Station (Line 1). In fact, it is a gigantic building of seven floors with five above the ground and two under the ground. In my view it is also a building of art if you know how to look at it from a distance.

The inside of it is illuminating with its gems and jewelries not included.

As you enter the building from the front entrance, you will see an ancient arch way opposite you in the grand hall of the five-floor building. On the archway are written three Chinese characters: 景德街(Jingde Street: Jingde Town is the most famous place for producing artistic ceramics in China, and this name symbolizes that this is a place to appreciate the art of ceramics).

I arrived at the museum at about 3:30 in the afternoon. It was indeed very late but happily I still had some time to appreciate the artistic and historical artworks stored in it. My interest dawns upon Chinese culture, ancient bronze items and Buddhist culture, which can be found on the second and fourth floor of the museum. So, I visited the two showrooms one after another.

At first, I saw numerous damaged or mutilated potter jars and items used by the early ancestors of Chinese people in Beijing. Although they looked not nice, you may feel their graceful and artistic designs just by looking at their appearances. For me, observing artworks seems to be researching something like nuclear weapons or genetic projects. It is totally beyond my level of understanding. But one thing is sure, some of them really look beautiful.

The truth is the more you look at them, you seem to have become full of artistic ways of thinking, especially when you observe items that interest you through and through. Buddha statues made of gold and bronze and copper were really awesome when I saw them that time. Although they are small, they look vivid. One thing worth mentioning is that when you look at each statue, you feel peaceful inside, because each small statue gives you such a feel.

In addition, ceramics exhibited on the second and fourth floors give off an air of beauty, art and elegance. Nearly most of them have been well protected even over the hundreds of years. Some items are replicas, but they also look awe-inspiring in my eyes.
