Suzhoujie, one renown place inside of the summer palace, is located at the northwest of Beijing. The street was built along the back river which was served for the loyal family in the Qing dynasty. Unfortunately, it burned down in the war(1860). The one we see now is a rebuilt street.
The Suzhou Market Street (Suzhoujie), located behind Longevity Hill, is the middle section of the Back Lake. The Market is great fun, because the lake serves as the street with the stalls and shops on its banks. It has all the features of other market streets in Suzhou, a famous 'Water Town' in China. The ancient-style street, about 300 meters (328 yards) long, transports the tourist back to the mid-18th century of China.
Built during the reign of Qianlong (1711-1799), the Suzhou Market Street was burned down by Anglo-French allied force in 1860. Until 1986, it was rebuilt and in 1990 it was opened to the public. Today's market includes stores such as dyers, souvenir shops, drugstores, banks, shoe stores, teashops, and hockshops, with clerks dressed in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) costumes.
To visit this place, an additional charge of CNY 10 is necessary for those visitors who hold Summer Palace entrance tickets, but not necessary for through ticket holders.
