Zhoukoudian Peking Man Site Museum is located at the foot of Longgu Mountain in Fangshan District, Beijing. This is ancient human museum, first constructed in 1953. In 1929, China’s paleo-anthropologist Mr. Pei Wenzhong found the first intact Peking Ape skull fossil, which shocked the whole world. This museum is about 48 km away from downtown Beijing and was placed into the World Heritage list in 1987.

In 1930, the Upper Cave Man’s fossils and cultural relics were also discovered at the site. The Upper Cave Man lived about 20,000 years ago from today. However, wars swept the whole nation and all the Peking Man’s and Upper Cave Man’s fossil samples got lost and have been found yet so far. After the foundation of New China, the research on Zhoukoudian site resumed and large amounts of precious maters were obtained. At present, archaeologists have discovered skulls, jaws, teeth and other fossils from over 40 corpses and other things such as stone tools, bone tools, horn tools and traces of fire once used by the pre-hisotrical humans.
