Located in No.171 Fuchengmennei Street in Xicheng District, Miaoying Temple, commonly known as the White Pagoda is a Tibetan Buddhism Gelugpa Temple. The temple was built in Yuan Dynasty, first named “Dashengshou Wanan Temple”. The white pagoda in the temple is the earliest one of the Lamaist pagodas, and also the most splendid construction of the domestic Lamaist pagodas.

The pagoda is in 51 meters height with brick masonry structure. The huge pagoda foundation is an octagonal double-floor Sumeru pedestal made of bricks and 2 meters high above the floor. Bevel square tower is in the center covers an area of 810 square meters achieves 9 meters high. On the upper section is seated the polygonal angle cross Sumeru pedestal, and further up is a huge, solid, 13-layer wheel, with each layer becoming evidently smaller than the other, called “Thirteen Heavens”. And 36 copper bells hang down around the treasure cover.

In the first year of Zhongtong Period, Anika first introduced the stupa into Tibet and then to the Great Capital of the Yuan Dynasty. The pagoda in Miaoying Temple fused the architectural style of China-nepal stupa, which not only possessed the rich buddhist meaning but also added luster and imposing manner to the constructions in the Great Capital of the Yuan Dynasty.
