There is a saying “People wouldn’t go the Fragrant Hills if they have been Pofengling”. In other words, Pofengling is more suitable for red leaves appreciation than the fragrant hills, the most well-known place for red leaves appreciation. Have been heard so many times that how splendid the view of Pofengling is, I finally decided to go there with my friend.
Located at Zhoukoudian Town, Fengtai District, Pofengling is just 52 km from downtown Beijing so we did not need to get up early. It is really humanize for a girl who likes sleep late on weekends like me. Started at 8:00 o’clock, we arrived at Pofengling at 12:00 o’clock because of the traffic jam. As the traffic is always bad during weekends so my friend and I just take the chance for a nap.
After we arrived at the place, we were told that we have to take a shuttle bus to Pofengling for other cars have to park in the parking lot. Fortunately, there are plenty shuttle buses here and all of them are free.
When we finally enter the scenic place, we were shocked not only by the red leaves but also by the flock of people. It is so crowded that you have to wigwagged though them to walk on. However, the higher you go, the less people are and the view is much more nicer, too. This place is much more close to the place I imagined.
Most of the red leave trees are smoketrees, their egg-like leaves turned in red when the temperature went low. By the time we went Pofengling, almost all the leaves changed color and it looks like the mountains are wear red coats to avoid cold.
The top of the mountain called Yingzui Cliff because it looks like a Olecranon. Standing on the cliff, you can have a whole view of the Pofengling area but do not forget to put your coat on for the wind here is really cold.
What’s more, there were many pedlars selling local fruits like persimmons, jujubes and hawthorns. The fruits sold here are fresh, tasty and at a low price, so you can see that amost everyone bought some fruits along the way back. I am one of them, of course.
