The Oldest Gingko Passage in Ditan Park

The Gingko Passage in Ditan Park is the oldest gingko passage in Beijing. Some of the gingko trees in the park look seemingly older than those at Diaoyutai. It is said that some of the trees were planted when Ditan Park was first constructed.

Ditan Park is also named Fangze Altar, the second largest altar of the top five altars in Beijing. Ditan Park is located on Andingmenwai Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing and covers an area of 37.4 hectares. This park, initially built in the 9th year of Emperor Jiajing (1530 A.D.), once served as the site to worship the gods in ancient China and is now the largest altar to worship earth discovered in China.

The inside of the park is really beautiful. It is much more convenient to admire golden leaves compared with Diaoyutai because no vehicles come and go from time to time. In autumn people living in Beijing or near the city will come to the park to shot colorful pictures of the season.

Best time to admire golden leaves: Late Oct. - Early Nov.

Admission: 2 RMB

Getting there: Take Bus No. 104, 108, 124 to Ditan Station, or take Subway Line 2 to Andingmen Station, or take Subway Line 5 to Yonghegong Lama Temple Station.

Comment from one netizen: Enter the park from the west gate, directly head for the northern part of the park, and you will see the gingko passage. Located north of the park and connecting Qingniangou Road and Xiaohuangzhuang Road, the small alley is also a nice area to admire gingko leaves.

Warm reminder: Visit the park when there are no social activities held in the park, since people who visit the park during these times are too many. On weekends and in the morning, people who visit the park are many, but not many people visit in twilight. Yet, twilight is the best time to admire the golden leaves.
