Why do you want to visit the Great Wall of China?

2016-09-12

The Great Wall of China once functioned to prevent the northern invaders from entering the mainland of China but today has turned into one of the most-visited tourist attractions in China. But why do you want to visit it? So far I have gathered some key reasons why people visit it.

1. The view is spectacular.

The Great Wall of China is the largest man-made structure ever built in the whole world, for it stretches over 5,000 km from the east to the west. If you have been to it, you must learn the Great Wall meanders on the peaks of different mountains in norther China. As soon as you reach it, you are on the peaks of some famous or unknown mountains. Standing on it, you can view the world below and even have a panoramic view of the area where you are standing. The view is indeed spectacular!

2. Learn the history of China.

The Great Wall of China was not built in one dynasty but in many different dynasties of ancient China. And so it is closely associated with Chinese history. For example, the Great Wall had already appeared during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods of China (770 B.C. - 221 B.C.). When the first emperor of the Qin Empire became the only ruler of the whole regions of China, he ordered the people to build the Great Wall to prevent invaders from the north. However, the sections of the Great Wall we see today are mostly built during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1683). During these times, the soldiers from China and the invaders from the north had numerous battles, during which bloody, happy, sad and even interesting stories happened and are waiting for you to explore.

3. Test your endurance.

To some extent, climbing the mountain and visiting the Great Wall can offer you the same experience of keeping your body fit, for the two activities are all associated with mountains. The difference is climbing the mountain, you don’t have to reach the mountain peaks, but you will have to if you wan to walk the Great Wall, for it is built on the mountain peaks. Sometimes it needs so much energy to cover a long distance because some sections are extremely steep, about 80 - 90 degrees. The most prominent parts if the Great Wall in Beijing includeBadaling,Mutianyu,Simatai,JuyongguanandJiankou.

4. Take amazing photos.

Taking photos now seems quite common, but taking photos on top of the Great Wall is even more awe-inspiring. If you take photos in the mountain, you can only get pictures about beautiful trees, flowers, a blue sky, clean brooks and stunning peaks; but if you shoot pictures in a mountain with the Great Wall, you have a more mesmerizing view, which is a mixed picture of the mountain and the ancient bricks which form a gigantic blue dragon lying between the mountain peaks. Moreover, it gives you a feel of going back to the past times of China.

5. Vanquish a special feel.

I suppose most climbers climbing the mountain hope to reach the top, not only aiming to do some exercise but also hoping to gain a special feel of conquering something great. Reaching the summit of the mountain makes you feel you have overcome a great difficulty, and walking the Great Wall will surely help you generate the feel that you have conquered some great barrier that many haven’t. It is a kind of inward achievement which cannot be expressed merely by words.
