The Former Residence of Lao She is located in Fengfu Hutong, West Street, Dengshikou in Dongcheng District. In the beginning of 1950, after returning from America, Lao She bought it and resided there for 16 years. It was here that he wrote 24 works and made brilliant achievements.

Lao She was the pen name of the writer Shu Qingchun. Being one of the most prominent writers of modern China, Lao She had left many novels and plays, which deeply affects Chinese people and remembered in the west for his novel Luotou Xiangzi (translated as Rickshaw Boy) and a play entitled Tea House.

Lao she was born in Beijing, raised and died in Beijing. He wrote about Beijing for all his life. Without Beijing, there would be Lao She.
