Why do I love Beijing?

Why do I love Beijing?

Beijing, the capital of China, which has witnessed varied historical changes in the past 3,000 years, is now a modernized city where I have seen jamming streets, a not very clear sky, different kinds of noisy people and a seemingly over-modernized urban structure, and experienced the high living standard. However, I still cannot strip the idea of loving Beijing out of my mind because the feel the capital gives off quite differs from those I have deeply tasted in other cities of the country. What is the feel of Beijing for me? I have lots of words to say.

I believe nearly everyone who hasn’t visited Beijing must have a wish to see the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace and other extremely magnificent and historical buildings only Beijing has. By visiting these buildings, we will become awed and the wish of seeing grand beauty and wonders can be ultimately satisfied. But perhaps this is just the superficial attraction of it. What’s inside it?

Traveling to Beijing and walking inside the city is one simple way of tasting the feel of the ancient city, although this way is actually not enough to explore what the real Beijing wishes to expose to its visitors. Nevertheless, if you spend one week or so traveling in the magnificent historical buildings, waking down the antique narrow streets behind the tall buildings, chattering with the locals sitting outside the low but antique houses, or visiting the mysterious mountains scattered on the outskirts of it, you will generate a new feel that you cannot get from anywhere else. If you work in Beijing for one year or more, you will also realize that numerous wonders and common things that you find here can change your way of thinking.

In fact, visiting the world famous antique buildings once or twice cannot make your truly touch the feel of the city’s wonders, and so learning more pieces of knowledge about the city and visiting the places inside it time after time with what you have learned will help you gradually understand why it is a city worth your appreciation. More importantly, Beijing is a city famous for imperial atmosphere which you cannot really get from other cities now in China. You may think Nanjing, Luoyang or Xi’an can be places to explore the imperial atmosphere, and of course that’s right, but Beijing like no other poses as a special gem giving off splendid light day and night.

If you travel or work in Beijing, you will clearly learn that it is a melting pot of peoples, which means you will meet all kinds of people from different regions of China and around the world. It is an ideal place for internal and external communication. For me, who loves Chinese history and traveling, I don’t have to take the train traveling thousands of miles to view its ancient wonders. Instead, what I do is but take the cobwebbed subway lines to wherever I want to go. What you can only view in pictures or videos can be experienced very easily by me anytime I want.
