The venue ‘It’s Chinese cuisine with Korean flavour. Their signature dish is a Korean take on zhajiang mian. The dishes there are familiar to me; they’re like my mother would make for me when I was young.’
Favourite dishes ‘Every time I’m there, I order zhajiang mian (炸酱面) and sweet-and-sour pork (zhazhupai, 炸猪排). Korean-style zhajiang mian is based on the version from Shandong, which was introduced to Korea by immigrants from the province in the early 1900s. A century later, this sweeter version of zhajiang mian is now a common food for Koreans. When I was young, my parents would take me to eat zhajiang mian and sweet-and-sour pork to celebrate festivals.’
