The Czech Boys Choir Boni Pueri, was founded in 1982, and has become an ensemble of worldwide renown. The choir is a continuation of the "Boni pueri" choral tradition that existed at the St. Vitus Cathedral as early as 1252. To date, the 200-member choir of boys ranging from four to nineteen years of age has performed in over 3,500 feature concerts in Japan, Canada, the United States, South Korea, Hong Kong, China, and across Europe. They have appeared alongside prominent artists such as J. Carreras, Bobby McFerrin, and conductor M. Honeck. Czech Boys Choir Boni Pueri also appears during significant national events.
The choir is also regularly invited to take part in international music festivals (Prague Spring, America Fest, Jeonju Sori Festival, Shanghai International Arts Festival, the Moscow Easter Festival, the Moscow Christmas Festival, Concentus Moraviae, Smetana’s Litomysl, and others), records for television and radio, and participates in film music (Missing, Aldabra). Additionally, Czech Boys Choir Boni Pueri members appear as soloists in operatic performances and significant musicological projects (W. A. Mozart’s The Magic Flute, H. Purcell’s The Fairy Queen, and A. Lloyd Webber’s Requiem).
Czech Boys Choir Boni Pueri collaborates with the Czech Philharmonic, among others, and, in 2010 was also invited to participate in the monumental performance of Mahler’s 8th symphony, the “Symphony of a Thousand,” under the baton of C. Eschenbach (Prague, Hannover, Hamburg). Other significant musical projects in recent years include the double choir performance of the St. Matthew Passion, a performance of the entire Responsoria triptych by J. D. Zelenka, as well as performances of J. S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, G F. Handel’s Messiah, and the Requiem masses of W. A. Mozart and G. Fauré. Other projects include the premie` re recordings of the works of Czech Baroque composers J. C. Fischer, P. J. Vejvanovsky, and J. D. Zelenka. The recording of Zelenka’s Sub olea pacis et palma virtutis earned the prestigious Cannes Classical Award in 2003. The choir also presented the world premie` re of composer R. Jísa’s Hlasy světla with British soprano C. Johnston.
