1. Jiufeng Peak

Located in northwest of the middle of Western Hill, Jiufeng National Forest Park is one of the national forest parks closest to Beijing. At an elevation of 465 meters above sea level, the peak got its name from the fact that it evokes the image of vultures soaring when seen from distance. Jiufeng Peak has a long history and used to be one of the 72 barracks of the Liao Dynasty, and Xiaozhai Temple and Goddess Temple were built after then. In 1930s, the first modern seismic station was built in here by Geological Survey Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Mining. At present, the national park is affiliated to Beijing Forestry University covering an area of 8,320,400 square meters. Its forest coverage rate is 96.2%, and possesses 684 kinds of plants and over 800 sorts of insects.

Location: West of Bei'anhe viliage, Sujiatuo Town, Haidian District

Bus Route: Take No. 346 Bus from the Summer Palace to Bei’anhe Village, and go then for 800 meters to the west.

2. Yunmeng Mountain

Located in Yanshan Mountain, about 80 km from the Beijing city center, Yunmeng Mountain with the main peak 1,415 meters high. The most striking characteristic of Yunmeng Mountain is its misty clouds and exuberant forests. Top scenery features strange peaks, grotesque rocks, clouds, forest, waterfall, ancient sites, forming a constantly changing space picture. According to weather statistics, temperature in Yunmeng Mountain is general lower than that in the plain area, and the content of negative ion in the air is greater than that in the cities, and the vegetation coverage reaches to more than 90%.

Bus Route: Take bus No. 936 or 936 (Qinglong Gorge) at Dongzhimenwai Station, get off at Qinglong Gorge Intersection, and transfer to bus h11 to Yunmeng Mountain.

3. Mangshan Mountain

Located on the east side of Ming Tombs Reservoir in Changping District, Mangshan Mountain is the largest national forest park in Beijing. Climbing mostly follows a set of stairs with many scenic spots along the way. The steps are formed from 3,666 boulder strips, making it the longest staircase in the capital. The 9.99-meter-tall Mangshan Buddha is located halfway up the mountain. There is an artificial lake at the peak, which is used as the hydraulic power station of the Ming Tombs. Visitors can go boating on the lake whenever it holds water. The nearby watch tower offers a panoramic view of the Ming Tombs.

Bus Route: Take Bus No.912, 845 and 919 to the terminus Ming Tomb Reservoir, and then walk across the dam.
