Fans of Yunnan's culture have a chance to witness another facet of its rich traditions on August 25 and 26, when another show from the province, Wonderful Dream of Yunnan, is staged at Tianqiao Theater in Beijing.
The show, which will also display ethnic art forms from Yunnan, comes on the heels of the staging of the Dai opera, Dao Anren, at Beijing's Cultural Palace of Nationalities as part of the ongoing Fifth National Ethnic Group Arts Festival that ends on September 4.
Dao Anren was performed by over 100 actors from the Yunnan Minzu University, the Honghe Prefecture Cultural Center and local amateur actors from Yunnan province. It tells the story of Dao Anren (1872-1913), a patriotic leader from the Dehong prefecture, in Yunnan province.
Dai ethnic opera, which originated in Yunnan Province -- and is popular mainly in the Dai and Jingpo Ethnic Autonomous Prefecture of Dehong -- was made part of China's Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2006. The show premiered in Yunnan in 2012.
