Jiaozhuanghu Underground Tunnels
Jiaozhuanghu is located in Waituo Mountain in Shunyi District, 60 kilometers away from downtown Beijing. It was built in 1964, called “Struggle History of Jiaozhuanghu Militia Exhibition Room”. Jiaozhuanghu Underground Tunnels are a labyrinth of underground tunnels built by the local people in Jiaozhuanghu village during the period of China's War of Resistance against Japan. They were used by the civilians and soldiers to ambush and do sniper attacks on the Japanese invaders. Inside the tunnel, you can find individual blindages, planks, meeting rooms, headquarters, gunshot holes, and warehouses etc. Entrances to the tunnels are camouflaged in ingenious ways: kangs, hogpens, donkey slots, wardrobes, a pot hole, a water jar, a kitchen range and a donkey stall are all entrances.
