Yandaixiejie Street is located in front of the Drum Tower, Dianmenwai Street,belongs to the boundary of Changqiao in Xicheng District.
From the late Qing Dynasty to the thirties, the street was specializing in the sales including long-stemmed Chinese pipes, hookahs, antiques, calligraphy and painting, framed paintings, stationery, flavor snack and service industry etc. Due to the architectures featured with the quaint and old Beijing flavors, it has become a famous cultural street in Beijing that a great number of celebrities have left their footprints.
Now, Yandaixie Street, like those famous attractions as the Drum Tower and Nanluoguxiang, has become the gathering site for beijingers to look for gourmet, enjoy antiques and appreciate painting and calligraphy and ancient architectures in their leisure times.
Starts from Dianmenwai Avenue in the east, stretches from northeast to southwest, Yandaixiejie Street is 232 meters long. It is said that the banner people who lived in Beijing had a habit of smoking tobacco and water pipe with tobacco leaves in tobacco pouchs. As the increasing demand of tobacco pouch, tobacco pouch shops were opened door to door in the street.
