Shijia Hutong is an ordinary Hutong with ordinary residents. However, it also a Hutong with its own history and stories. Want to know its stories? Come and visit Shijia Hutong Museum!
It seems there is nothing special at Shijia Hutong except Shijia Hutong Museum. Is it a museum about the Hutong only? Yes. So, can you imagine how many stories the Hutong has?
Just in front of the gate is a big old-fashioned-bricks-tiled exhibition hall. All of these bricks were made in the 1930s. There are many items that show old Beijingers’ lives, such as copies of offers in 1920s; shadow basket that were used in old families, bus tickets and so on. Some of the items on the exhibition hall were donated by nearby residents.
There are 2 rooms that are furnished like they were in 1970s. The most special one is Voices of Hutong Exhibition Hall where visitors can hear these special voices by touching the buttons on the screen inside the hall. Sale calls, bicycle bells and car horns, these voices used to be the most familiar voice of the local people.
