During the 1966 FIFA World Cup the North Korean national football team stunned the world when they beat tournament favorite Italy and became the first Asian team ever to reach the quarterfinals. After the team returned home, nothing was heard from them again. Almost 40 years later two English filmmakers traveled to Pyongyang and found the surviving members of the North Korean team. The resulting documentary ‘The Game of Their Lives’ tells the surprising story of how complete unknowns shook the world and provides a rare glimpse of life in modern day North Korea.

To mark the 50th anniversary of this remarkable match, Koryo Tours will organize a special screening of this award-winning documentary. Koryo Tours’ General Manager Simon Cockerell will join the screening to explain how the film ended up being made, how the players have been since the match and the movie, and to answer any other questions about films and travel in our mysterious next-door neighbor nation.
