Building subway lines in Beijing was aimed to release the stress of the large population transportation of the metropolis, and there is another very useful function in addition to it. That’s facilitating travelers to reach their destinations. Along Subway Line 8 you will find some stunning spots to visit.
1.Olympic Park
Olympic Park is now one of the most visited scenic spots in Beijing for tourists. The most famous buildings inside it are the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube, which were built in 2008 aiming to hold the Olympic Games. Getting to the park, you can get on Subway Line 8 and get off at the Olympic Park station (Exit D).
2.Olympic Forest Park
The Olympic Forest Park is actually part of the Olympic Park, but you will have to walk 500 meters at least if you get off at the Olympic Park station. To facilitate each and every tourist, the subway line of Beijing has designed a stop for this spot too and its name now is Forest Park South Gate (Chinese: 森林公园南门; Exit B). This park is even larger and you won’t come out of it after touring one or two hours. In addition, it is an ideal land for jogging.
3.Drum Tower Street
Gulou Dajie or The Drum Tower Street poses as one of the most ancient and cultural streets in Beijing, most probably because of the Drum Tower built in ancient China. Many traveling to Beijing hope to pay a visit to this site but may not know how to quickly get there. Taking the taxi of Beijing is supposed to a quick way but sometimes may not be so quick due to the heavy traffic jams. So, traveling to the site by taking the subway is the best choice. Get on Subway Line 8 and get off at Gulou Dajie. That’s done.
4.Shichahai
Traveling around Beijing, you cannot miss Shichahai, for it is not only a site for evening walk and bar drinking but also a historical site which has witnessed the changes of Beijing in the past 700 or so years. Today visiting the scenic area as night falls is the best time, especially in sunny days or cloudy days, for the views during these times are beyond measure. Now take Subway Line 8 and get off at Shichahai and you will see the fascinating spot.
5.Nanluoguxiang
The literal translation of the name should be South Gong and Drum Alley, where large streams of tourists visit each and every day, most probably to experience the feel of Old Beijing hutong living. During holidays it is usually touristy, and so it is best to visit it not during holidays. The tiles and walls look as old as ever but now this alley is more famous for fashion or Old Beijing shops. You can take Subway Line 8 and get off at Nanluoguxiang (Exit F). After getting off, you need to walk about 370 meters to the alley. Or you can take Subway Line 6 and get off at Nanluoguxiang (Exit F) to the site.
