A Legendary Story about Jade Rabbit Stone

A Legendary Story about Jade Rabbit Stone

2016-07-07

Once I was hiking in Phoenix Ridge with my friends, we saw a stones looks like a rabbit laid there. Then we heard others called it Jade Rabbit Stone.

Jade Rabbit is the pet of Chang E, the goddess of the moon in Chinese culture. Why did this stone was named the Jade Rabbit? Here is the story I saw from the explanation board:

It is said the rabbit was Chang E’s partner who keep her company. Chang E liked her rabbit so much that she take it with her no matter where she go. One day, Chang E was summoned to the presence of the Jade Emperor. She putted her rabbit at Phoenix Ridge to drink water as the palace of Jade Emperor is not allowed to take pets.

This is the first time that the rabbit was left alone and she was excited to find some rabbits in the mountain so she went to play with these new companions and forgot the time. After received an emergency order, Chang E went out the palace to Phoenix Ridge to take her rabbit. However, she didn’t find her. She dare not delay and left Phoenix Ridge without the rabbit.

The rabbit was sad to find that her master left her alone and waited at the exact place she was left and hope to see Chang E again and turned into a stone.
