Beijing Folk Museum is the only state-owned folk culture themed museum in China. The museum lies in No. 141 Chaoyangmenwai Dajie, Chaoyang District, which is also a protective cultural site – Dongyue Temple.
To worship the God of Mountain Tai - Dongyue, the Dongyue Temple was built in 1319 (in the Yuan dynasty) by Mater Zhang Liusun and Wu Quanjie. After extension of the Ming and Qing dynasties, the temple's pattern became what we seen now.
Covering an area of 47,400 square meters, there are about 300 rooms of different architecture styles of the Yuan, Ming, Qing Dynasties. In history, Dongyue Temple is a national place for worship gods and also a place for citizens to hold folk activities.
Beijing Folk Museum was set there in 1997 and opened to the public in 1999. There are always folk activities being held at Dongyue Temple when it comes to Chinese festivals such as Dragon Boat Festival, Middle Autumn Festival, Double Ninth Festival and so on.
Transportation: Take Bus No. 101, 109, 110, 112, 750, 813, 846, 855, 858 to Shenlujie Stop; Or take Subway Line 6 or Line 2 to Chaoyangmen Station then walk east for about 500 meters.
