Long time ago, Jiuxianqiao was a small village and it name was not Jiuxianqiao. So, how did it gain the name Jiuxianqiao? Here is the legendary story.

It is said that there was a river at this area, and a bridge was built for passengers’ convenience. However, no one dare to walk on the bridge for they believe that the first one who pass the bridge need to fight against the evil of the river.

People waited and waited, no one passed the bridge until an old man with a wheelbarrow appeared at dusk. The old man’s wheelbarrow has 4 buckets of liquor which seems more than 200 kg.

“The old man is so strong that he take the heavy wheelbarrow so easy.” People said when they saw the old man passing the bridge. All of a sudden, two bucket of liquor fallen into the river. “Let’s help!” Said by the crowed. However, the old man kept going as if there was nothing happened. “It’s really strange!” one said, “The two buckets on the left had fallen, but how he can keep balance? Can’t he be an immortal?” People all agreed with him. At the same time, they smelled of the fragrance of liquor from the river. “The man must be Jiuxian (God of Liquor).” People thought. So the bridge was named Jiuxianqiao. And as time goes, its became geographical names of this place.
