Punk Rock Noodles

Punk Rock Noodles

To set the scene, the masterfully chosen soundtrack stays true to its “oi” intentions without scaring off those unaccustomed to the hard and fast. Think latter-day Clash tunes instead of the growls of the Sex Pistols; inviting with attitude rather than hardcore and heavy.

Settled in a corner table, we could admire the punk posters and zines that decorate the walls and tabletops, which reminded us very much of our own bedroom walls. A portrait of the late and legendary founder Lei Jun smiles down with his signature roguish grin, challenging you to another pint.

Our carnivorous companion stuck to meat instead of sticking it to the man with the Unite! wings , which come fried two ways: breaded in ramen noodles or coated with potato chips. The chicken clashes perfectly with the accompanying bean curd sauce for an ideal union of texture and taste.

Don’t be deceived by their humble appearance of the Xiao Jing Chang Noodles. Beneath pale pulled noodles and steamed veggies, an incredibly tasty, peppery sauce and chopped peanuts await, creating a blend of devilish details and deliciousness.

The beef fried rice is fiercely spicy, as peppery as it was peppered with beef and altogether delicious. It had us pre-planning cold winter eves with some Arrow Factory ale, steaming chaofan, and the tunes of our favorite punk gods.
