In his first solo exhibition in Beijing, Baoxu introduces to the public two series of paintings, "sea" and "existence", very different yet intimately related.
In his "sea" paintings, Baoxu stretches and compresses time and space, one time zooming in infinitely close into the always-changing foam of sea waves, one time representing the still and timeless line of horizon between the sea and the sky. The perception of distance and proportions is annihilated. Far and close, deep and shallow, still and chaotic, these attributes are captured and synthesized to become the symbols of a new personal language which Baoxu uses to create his visual poetry.
The destabilizing absence of a reference system is also apparent in the "existence" series, where Baoxu brings together flashes of reality, moments and places that might have existed or were maybe just imagined. As memory and imagination blend together, they produce a feeling of insecurity that we can all relate to, as it is so deeply connected to the terrible beauty of our human journey.
