Qianmen Street is a famous commercial street in Beijing. North from Yueliangwan, south to the crossing of Tianqiao, it is located in the central axis of Beijing. It was used to be the imperial road for emperors to visit Temple of Heaven and Temple of Agriculture before the construction of outer city in 29th year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty (1550), and it became the main north-south street after the construction of outer city.
Guanghelou also known as "Guanghe Chalou" or "Chalou", with the history of old Beijing and culture of operatic circle, is an attraction you can’t miss in Qianmen. Built in the end of the Ming Dynasty, Guanghelou was the the earliest famous theatrical stage in Beijing. Combined with Hualelou, Guangdelou and First Stage, they were known as “Four Theatrical Stages in Beijing”. As a theatrical stage in the private garden, Chalou was thrived in the period of Emperor Kangxi.
The long history of Qianmen Street has created many Chinese Time-honored Brands, such as Liubiju Sauce and Pickle Shop, Tongrentang Drugstore, Ruifuxiang Silk Shop, Changchuntang Pharmacy, Neiliansheng Shoe Store, Zhangyiyuan Tea Shop, and Yueshengzhai Sauced Meat Shop and Duyichu Shumai Shop and other 16 shops scattered spectively on both sides of the road.
