Experience Chinese Contemporary Art in Caochangdi Art District

When mentions to contemporary art in Beijing are made, visitors are generally told to look no further than the 798 art district. Composed of popular galleries and flashy displays of outdoor statues, 798 is indeed worth a visit. However Beijing has numerous other art offerings, including the Caochangdi Art District.

Caochangdi is a developing arts zone within a village between the Airport Expressway and No. 5 Ring Road, about 2 kilometres northeast of Dashanzi. The feel of the area is totally different because the studios and galleries are located within the narrow village streets. These are scattered through a district otherwise home to a variety of apartments, local stores, and hole-in-the-wall restaurants.

Caochangdi Art District is regarded as "the spiritual promised land for Chinese contemporary art" by a great many Chinese people. Following 798 Art District, Caochangdi, which located on the eastern outskirts of Beijing, has become another Holy Land for Chinese contemporary art.
