Located at Xicheng District, the Grand View Garden was built in 1984 and construction lasted five years. Unlike other such gardens, it was not built as a private or imperial garden, but as a site for the making of the TV series, A Dream of Red Mansions. Covering an area of 13 hectares, it is a fairyland including charming pavilions, twisting cloisters, thriving trees and flowers and lakes with clear ripples make up this dream-like place.
Many distinctive activities are held in the garden, like temple fairs and celebrations. Grand performances such as Yuan Concubine's Visit, really sparkle. The actors in authentic ancient costumes give an excellent narration of specific plots from the novel. A scenic location in the northeast of the garden named Great Void Dreamland features the screening of a video with highlights scenes from the novel. Water-scene movies and performances are also screened in the evening. Visitors can look for the scenes in the drama, understand the culture of A Dream of Red Mansions as well as appreciate the glorious scenery in the garden.
