First opened in 1988, it is the only comprehensive, state-level science and technology museum in China. With the establishment of the new exhibition building in 2009, the museum is an important front for popular science education in China, with the goal of disseminating knowledge of science and technology among the public, and help increase the scientific and cultural literacy of all citizens. Many units are set in the museum such as five themed exhibition halls, public exhibition hall and Special-effects Theater with their own functions.
1. Permanent Exhibition
The museum consists of five permanent exhibition halls that “Science Paradise” and “Glory of China” located on the first floor in the northwest area, “Exploration and Discovery” and “Sci-tech and Life” on the second floor, and “Challenges and Future” on the third floor. Each hall has a different theme and concept that conveys corresponding knowledge to visitors.
