The Wintersweet in Yuetan Park

The Wintersweet in Yuetan Park

2016-02-29

Have you heard the beautiful wintersweet before? As one cultural symbol of China, wintersweet is a kind of flower which blossoms in cold weather. The ancient Chinese were moved by wintersweet, and thought they were embodiments of being brave and tough. There are almost no flowers on the open ground during that period except wintersweet. So, I’d like to introduce you a place to appreciate wintersweet – Yuetan Park.

Located in Xicheng District, Yuetan Park is near the well-known street “Financial Street”. Same as the Temple of Heaven and Ditan Park, it is one of “the 5 altars in Beijing”, but it is not as famous as the former for it is just a little park.

Instead of being a tourist attraction, Yuetan Park actually serves as a little park for some locals to spend their leisure time. The wintersweet inside of Yuetan park are just known by some local people and amateur photographers.

There is a quiet garden for wintersweet in the southwest part of the park where people seldom notice. With several trees surrounded by other trees, several wintersweet trees stand here and give out their fragrance.

With its little yellow flowers, the leaves-free branches are much more beautiful than they are in summer. More importantly, they are flowers who that blossom while other flowers do not.
