The lantern festival falls on fifth day of the first lunar month. It is a festival that you should spend with your family, friends or your loved one. And there is a legendary story about the origin of the Lantern Festival.
It is said that there were many fierce beasts in ancient times which always attacked humans. In order to live a peaceful life, hunters joined together to kill these beasts. Unfortunately, a holy bird fallen from heaven for he got lost and a hunter killed it without knowing the bird is not a beast. The god was angry when he heard that his bird was killed by a human, so he ordered his troops to the human world and killed all humans by fire on the fifth day of the first lunar month. However, his daughter, a kind goddess told these people about the bad news. All people fell into despair except an old man. The old man said that they can use lanterns, firecrackers and fireworks to make an illusion of fire.
To that day, people hang lanterns, set fireworks and exploded firecrackers as they were told. The god was very happy and thought he needn’t send troops any more after he saw there was already “fire” in the human world. Therefore, to celebrate how they survived from this crisis; people lit lanterns and set fireworks on that day every year.
