Moka Bros is another all-around hit from what seems to be one of Beijing’s most reliable restaurant teams. Joining elder sister Mosto in Nali Patio, this ground-floor café offers a relaxed, low-key vibe that will suit quick mid-week lunches or drinks and bites with friends.
Branded as a healthy food eatery, Moka Bros highlights fresh and complex flavors. The tenderloin steak avocado wrap has been added to our list of favorite sandwiches in the city. The jalapeños bring a sizable kick tempered ever so-slightly by creamy avocado. Chunks of tender meat fill out the wrap, though the small size may have hungry eaters craving more. The same goes for the delicate parma ham and the turmeric-spiced chicken Moka club sandwich. Both make a better casual lunchtime bite than evening meal.
For a larger option, the rice and noodle-based ‘power bowls’ are big enough to fill the hungriest tummies. A standout for us was the soba fix, a warm noodle bowl dripping with peanut sauce and full of crunchy vegetables. After all the whole grains and vegetables, it’s acceptable to indulge in some dessert at the end of the meal. Waffles and sweet crépes are great for sharing, but for something smaller, Argentinean sweet alfajores are bite-size satiny morsels, while lemon squares will sate anyone that likes their desserts zesty and tart.
