In the Qing dynasty, Sanxian (a three-stringed plucked instrument), Sihu (four-stringed bowed instrument), and Dulcimer were popular both in Cian county, Hebei Province and the countryside of Beijing.

In the late 19 century, there were professional players of Wuyin Drum performance in Beijing and Tianjin.

In the 1930s, Di Qingshan changed the music accompany Sanxian into Yangqin when he was broadcasting his performance. This kind of performance is much like Yueting Dagu, so it was called Danqin Dagu.

In the 1940s, Guan Xuezeng and Wu Changbao used Beijing tone in their performance and added Sihu music accompaniment, too.

After the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, this kind of performance formal denominate is Beijing Qinshu. The main characters of Beijing Qinshu are such the lyrics are colloquial phrases and the realistic story.
