Grug is a national cute pet in Australia. It is a fictional character appearing in a series of Australian children’s books by the author Ted Prior. The drama Grug is adapted from a series of picture books of the same name, and it has won the Best Play Award in the International Teenager Annual Performance and successfully toured around many countries such as Australia, U.S.A, Canada, Korea, Japan and Singapore.

Grug began his life as the top of a Burrawang tree. One day he dropped on the ground and grew his eyes, nose and small feet. Resembling a small, striped haystack with a face, he is fascinated by the world around him and solves daily problems creatively and without fuss. Like his natural straw-sack appearance, his inner world is pure, natural and sincere. He takes delights in helping others without return and sharing his happiness with people around him.

The stage version of Grug made its debut at Sydney Children Art Festival in 2010, and won 3 big awards such as the Best Performance Award and Best Performing Technology Award. It won several other awards in following years, and was performed in Broadway with continuous 3-week full houses.
