2015-10-22

When mentioning the fifties and sixties of the 20th century, many people may immediately think of the people's commune. We are not strange of this word that we can see it in grandma’s story, textbooks of high school and university…What is it like? Now our editor recommends a Canteen of People’s Communes in Beijing for you to experience the feel the environment.

Featured with distinctive decoration, the canteen is filled with festive red, warm-red lighting, red lanterns as well as hung with Chairman Mao and Chairman Xi's portrait, the integral atmosphere feels like returning back to China half a century ago. Seats in the restaurant are like the Kang in northeast area, tableware are made of old iron, and the wall and toilet are posted of newspapers. Apart from the scattered tables in the hall, there are also different sized  private rooms. The doors of some private rooms are stuck with different couplets, such as “The Red Army fears not the trials of the Long March, holding light ten thousand crags and torrents" and so on.

The restaurant is mainly specialized in northeast cuisine, for the taste is very authentic with large portions. Fish Head Soak Bread and Braised Pork with Vermicelli are strongly recommended. If you order the “main dish” here, and attendants will lift the bridal sedan chair to serve the dishes with the accompaniment of gongs and drums.
