Galleria Continua

Galleria Continua

2015-09-16

Founded by Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo Fiaschi and Maurizio Rigillo in 1990, Galleria Continua is in an old cinema in the historical Italian town of San Gimignano. Unsurprisingly, the gallery’s location helped it to develop a unique, quirky outlook - one that embraces its unexpected geography, the continuity between past, present and future, and the forms of dialogue that spring from these concerns.

In 2005, the gallery broadened its artistic horizons and reach by launching a space in Beijing, and another in Le Moulin, France, in 2007. The gallery’s inaugural Beijing show consisted of 16 artists from five continents, and was significant for being one of the first initiatives to be held by a Western gallery, bringing foreign art to a Chinese audience at a time when it was still uncommon.

The gallery’s three-story space still exhibits the best of Italian and international contemporary art, with each exhibition uniquely devised and tailor-made for the space by the artist. Expect to see work from new Chinese talent, as well as world-renowned artists such as Antony Gormley, Anish Kapoor and Chen Zhen.
