The Yeya (Wild Duck) Lake Wetland Nature Reserve northwest of the county town of Yanqing occupies an area of 6,873 hectares, of which 3,939 hectares are wetland. It is the only wetland nature reserve for birds in Beijing. Many kinds of fish, amphibious animals, insects and a large number of freshwater plankton live in Yeya Lake in the reserve. The reserve is home to more than 260 kinds of birds including black stork, white-head crane, giant bustard, golden eagle and white-tailed sea eagle.
There are a total 280 kinds of wetland birds–passing migrant birds 56.6%, summer migrant birds 21.1%, resident birds 14.7% and winter migrant birds 7.6%. The main birds in this area includes Common Pheasant, Spot-billed Duck, Common Black-headed Gull, Far-Eastern Curlew, White-eyed Pochard , Common Kestrel, Mallard, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Black-capped Kingfisher, Northern Harrier, Northern Harrier, Eurasian Hobby, Little Egret, Chinese Pond-Heron, Black Stork, Azure-winged Magpie, Black-billed Magpie, Rusty-rumped Warbler, Black-browed Reed Warbler, Oriental Reed Warbler, Dusky Warbler, Grey Wagtail, Little Bunting and more.
How to get there: Take Bus 919 at Deshengmen Bus Terminal and get off at Yanqing, then connect Bus 921 for Yeyahu Lake.
