Peking Opera is one of China’s six dramas: Peking Opera, Shaoxing Opera, Huangmei Opera, Pingju, Qin Opera and Henan Opera. It represents the finest combination of music, vocal performance, mime, dance and acrobatics. With over a history of 200 years, Peking Opera was developed from absorbing many other dramatic forms, mostly from the local drama “Huiban” which was popular in China during 18th century. Beijing Opera presents dramatic plays and figures mainly by infusing four artistic methods: singing, dialogue, dancing and martial art; and have main roles like Sheng, Dan and Jing. One of the most favored Peking Opera viewing sites is Mei Lanfang Grand Theatre (Chinese Name: 梅兰芳大剧院).
The theater was built at 1894, and had the 120th anniversary of his birthday in 2015. It was named after the lat Mei Lanfang, a brilliant Peking Opera artist. The theater is a fan-shaped building with a stylish stell and glass structure. The interior features some key ingredients in traditional Chinese architectures.
