Biteapitta has been a Beijing dining institution since it opened, delivering authentic, moderately priced, and reliable Middle Eastern fare. Though we can usually barely pull ourselves away from their excellent falafel, shawarma, and hummus, we did venture outside our comfort zone to try some recent additions to the menu.

The batenjan mahshi is great plate that’s great for sharing. This trio of sliders is comprised of stacks of lightly breaded and fried eggplant. Each layer is stuffed with minced beef and topped off with tahini, tomato, and yogurt sauces. The stuffed chicken is generous in both taste and portion size. The whole bird is enough to feed four, with perfectly crisp skin and a minced beef and pine nut stuffing. The chicken is baked with olive oil and served on laffa bread with fried onion and a tabbouleh salad on the side.
