Jiankou (箭扣) is one section of the Great Wall of China, 30 kilometers away from Huairou County. The mountains are of various shapes, so that this section looks great and full of challenge. Jiankou Great Wall is famous for its W-shape and the dilapidated original form.

On the Jiankou Great Wall you can view the Longtan and relics of old great wall bricks. On the foot of the mountain, the water collected together forms the pool. “Hundreds of fishes are in the pool and they are swimming freely”. The fishes are Hongzun fishes. This is the site of the largest fish farm in south of China.

The Jiankou Great Wall is the most challenging, majestic and grand wall in Beijing’s Great Wall sections. It is weathering by wind and there is no man-made decoration. The Jiankou Great Wall represents the surprising, dangerous, peculiar, rare and absolute of the great wall.

The area has been chosen by artists as the best section of the Great Wall for painting and by photographers as one of the best section for photography. It is said that most of the paintings of the Great Wall sold in China are those of Jiankou Great Wall.

Getting there: Get on Express Bus No. 916 at Sanyuanqiao West (三元桥西), get off at Huairou North Street (怀柔北大街), walk to the opposite of the street to take Bus No. 936 Branch (huairou 怀柔 - dongting 洞庭), get off at Xinying Road (辛营路口), then walk to Tianyu Village (田峪村) according to the road sign and keep walking to the rainbow trout raising pond to reach the mountain climbing spot. After climbing over the peak of this mountain, you will see Jiankou.
