Leave it to the French to refine the all-American cupcake—once the provenance of PTA bake sales and later, aspirational television shows—into sculptural miniature pastries fit for royalty, like they've done at Berko.

Since 1988, Berko has been in the business of making mini cupcakes, cheesecakes, and custom cakes with an “American” twist (through a Gallic lens, of course) for sugar fiends in France, Belgium, and now Beijing. Their second Beijing location is at the Kerry Centre, with a third in the works for Sanlitun Taikoo Li North.

The Berko cupcakes are broken down into “cheese” (with cream-cheese frosting) and “mousse” (mousse frosting) series; a rotating cast of flavors and fillings stand guard at the counter every day.
