Comprehensive Assessment:

There are two peaks erecting on the mountain top, which look like two pairs of vultures about to fly away. Two old pines towering into the sky stand against each other. Located in the middle of the Xishan mountain range, and 2 km away fromZhongguancunHigh-tech Park, Jiufeng is one of the national forest parks closet to downtown Beijing. Tourists may take a bus at Summer Palace or Beigongmen Station or drive alongside Badaling Highway (Beianhe Exit)-Beiqing Road. Originally named Xiufeng, Jiufeng is named for its major peak which is 405 meters high and looks like a vulture. It’s said that it used to be one of the camps of seventy-two camps in the Liao Dynasty, which came after the construction of Xiaozhai Temple and Goddess of Mercy Temple. In the 1930s, the first seismostation in modern times was built here by the Geological Survey Office of Ministry of Agriculture and Mining. At present, the national park is affiliated to Beijing Forestry University covering an area of 8,320,400 square meters. Its forest coverage rate is 96.2%, and possesses 684 kinds of plants and over 800 sorts of insects.
