Quanjude is known perhaps as Beijing’s most famous longstanding roast duck specialist since its establishment in 1864. This particular location atQianmenis the original and oldest among its many branches in Beijing. The restaurant chain boasts serving over 2 million roast ducks to over 5 million customers annually. If you are visiting the Qianmen area and have yet to experience eating authentic Peking roast duck, you should absolutely make a visit to this location.
The original Quanjude restaurant building still stands at its prominent position, located onQianmen Streetand near Dashilar Street, and between international brands like Starbucks and Uniqlo. When you arrive at the Qianmen location, not only will you be able to take pictures in front of the famous original location, you will be presented with three options for eating here.
Located close to the front entrance you can purchase roast duck to-go or dine at the small fast food restaurant. The fast food restaurant offers a simple menu and quick service, but don’t be surprised by prices much higher than KFC and McDonald’s. Here, you can get a combo of duck meat, condiments, soup, and thin pancake wrappers for about $20 USD a person. You’ll also be able to order hot and cold side dishes to accompany roast duck. The to-go window next to the entrance sells half or whole roast ducks if you want to take one home for a meal instead of the microwaveable versions sold in supermarkets.
To the rear of the front entrance is the main original restaurant. The multi-level building is so large that it employs over 400 staff members and can occupy 900 guests at a time. Order from the expansive menu and always make sure to order the duck. Not only will you have a great meal, but an expert carver will come to your tableside and serve you the duck’s crispy skin and tender meat on platters. The level of service in the restaurant is nothing short of excellent, and the amenities and atmosphere of the restaurant is top notch as well.
